REACH is a Not for profit Organization, founded for alleviating the sufferings of the poor masses living in villages on the outskirts of Lahore, Pakistan. It was registered with the Government of Punjab, Pakistan, Directorate of Social Welfare on 27 September 2003 under the voluntary social welfare agencies registration and control ordinance 1961; and with Pakistan Center for Philanthropy (PCP) in 2007. Students are admitted without regards to race, religion and political beliefs.

About Us

READ (IQRA)”, was the first word revealed to our beloved Prophet Muhammad, (Peace be upon him). It is ironical that more than half the population of a country created in the name of Islam, the religion of the followers of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is illiterate. A sizable number of the so called LITERATE can barely read and write, with the majority of them dwelling in the rural areas of the country. Even religious education is not conducted in any organized manner. The imam of the village mosque is entrusted the duty of teaching the children how to read the Quran, without developing any understanding of its contents.

Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) is a non – profit support organisation with a mandate to promote the volume and effectiveness of philanthropy in Pakistan. PCP has nationwide outreach to accredited CSOs spread all over the country and works in close linkage with them to build their credibility. PCP’s Certification Programme of NPOs seeks to set sector-wide standards in good governance, financial transparency and programme effectiveness, and helps to promote adoption of best practices for increased efficiency and impact of NPO’s work for social and economic development of the society.

OUR OBJECTIVES

REACH is making a modest effort in providing the opportunity of better educational and health facilities to the rural community of Billianwala Khu, on the outskirts of the city of Lahore, Pakistan. Though not far from Lahore, the area is typical of an under-developed rural society with deep rooted traditional practices, with small land holdings, and with the majority of the population forming the unskilled labour class, living from hand to mouth. Children (especially girls) are expected to lend a helping hand in house work and in the field or tend to the few farm animals that some families possess, rather than go to school. Education facilities are inadequate. Teaching staff in government schools is untrained, insufficient and mostly absent.

STUDENTS AT REACH

My teacher is my inspiration, I want to be like him and when I graduate I would like to teach in this schoolAsma (10th Grade)

The day starts with the recitation of Quran and a formal assembly where the students sing the national anthem and the principal and faculty deliver a few words of wisdom to the students

The students then officially begin their academic session which consists of 7 periods where students study different subjects. Midway through these periods, students enjoy recess

There are kids movie sessions for the younger lot, where they get a chance to see cartoons and educational documentaries, this is like heaven for them as they do not have access to all these luxuries. These sessions allow the student’s imagination to grow and gives them an opportunity to better understand English. The elder students have a chance to learn new skills and then apply them, from hand knitting to computer courses, students can opt to engage in skill sessions as per their interest

REACH focuses on extracurricular activities as much as academia. Students are provided with ample opportunities to show their talents in regularly held competitions

While academics plays a pivotal role in shaping the character of our students, we believe that our students can really change their society through developing skills, skills which would allow them to earn a respectful livelihood and create jobs for their fellow society members

Declamation contests provide the students to express their opinions about topics that matter and in the process allow them to gain confidence and grooms them to effectively convey their point of view.
